Rosalee has specialized in fluency disorders for over 30 years.
She is also Adjunct Professor at McGill University, School of Communication
Sciences and Disorders, teaching a graduate course in Stuttering
Disorders in Children. As a founding member of the Lidcombe Program
Training Consortium she coordinates clinical training for this program
in North America and has provided presentations and workshops to
more than 1000 clinicians. Rosalee has published in peer reviewed
journals and contributed chapters on Stuttering to various textbooks.
Her most recent work includes long term follow up of maintenance
of fluency in children and school age children treated with the
Lidcombe Program for early stuttering. |

Karen has over 25 years of clinical experience. She has developed
treatments, materials, workshops and has published in the areas
of motor speech disorders, specific language impairment and social-pragmatic
language disorders. Karen has developed MFC-public sector liaisons
such as the Oral Language Projects: Offering accountable, effective
services to children in their communities and is responsible for
the MFC‘s Summer Language Camp. She provides education and
support to professionals, clinical staff and students.

Patricia Arana

Patricia is a fluent Spanish speaker who has worked at the Montreal
Fluency Centre since graduating from the University of British Columbia
in May 2007. Patricia assesses and treats preschoolers and school-age
children with various speech and language difficulties in both English
and Spanish. At the clinic, Patricia is developing a specialty in
early intervention for toddlers with delayed speech and language
(emerging communication skills). Patricia also provides speech and
language services to the Cree School Board in Northern Quebec as
part of the MFC community partnerships. |

Elissa Benjamin

Elissa Benjamin graduated from Boston University in September, 2007.
She has worked at The Montreal Fluency Centre since February, 2008.
Prior to relocating from Boston, MA, Elissa worked at an outpatient
pediatric clinic for children with learning and developmental disabilities,
including Autism Spectrum Disorder. Elissa assesses and treats a
variety of speech and language impairments in preschool and younger
school-age children. She also performs Early Intervention therapy
for children under three years old and helps run the MFC's Social
Language Group. She has worked with a variety of populations including
children with language-based learning disabilities, Asperger's Syndrome
and written language disorders. |

Alina Boghen graduated from Dalhousie University in 2003. She has
worked at the MFC since relocating from Ottawa, where she worked
in several schools, in August of 2006. Alina assesses and treats,
in English and French, preschoolers and school-aged children with
a wide range of speech, stuttering and language impairments. Alina
is currently involved in the development of bilingual programs at
the MFC and is also working on a contract with the Cree School Board
in Northern Quebec. |

Antonietta Conte, M.Sc., S-LP

Antonietta has worked at the MFC since graduating from McGill in
1998. She offers a wide range of general practice but has also developed
a specialty in the assessment and treatment of children with language-based
learning disabilities, as well as literacy, from early school age
to high school. In the past few years, Antonietta has become the
clinician responsible for overseeing the clinical mentoring of junior
clinicians, as well as the supervision and mentoring of students
in Speech Pathology at the internship level. |

Debbie has worked at the MFC since 2001. She offers a wide range
of general practice including assessment and treatment of speech
and language impairments in preschool and school-age children. Debbie
co-developed and runs the MFC Social Language Group for preschoolers.
Debbie has also helped to implement the MFC Oral Language Project
in a local elementary school. |

Andrea has worked at the MFC since graduating from the University
of Alberta in 1995. While offering a wide range of general practice
for the past 10 years, she developed a specialty in the area of
reading disorders. Andrea has developed different treatment models
focusing on the application of phonological awareness and phonics
in reading and spelling in both English and French. She is also
responsible for workshops, publications and presentations on the
subject of reading and phonological awareness to parent groups,
educators and professional organizations. |

Danra has worked at the MFC since graduating from the University
of Vermont in 2006. She is developing a specialization in fluency
disorders, specifically working with preschool and school-age children
using the Lidcombe Program for early stuttering intervention. Danra
is also involved in the development of an emerging language training
program for the parents of young children (under 3) who have delayed
speech and language. In addition to working with a variety of speech
and language clients at the MFC, Danra spends several days a week
working with preschool age children at Step by Step Child and Family
Centre in Kanawake Mohawk territory. |

Sarita Koushik, M.SLP (C)

Sarita specializes in fluency disorders, where she assesses and
treats stuttering in preschool, school-age and adolescent clients.
Since 2002, she relocated from Edmonton's Institute for Stuttering
Treatment and Research (ISTAR) to the Montreal Fluency Centre under
the directorship of Rosalee Shenker. Presently, Sarita is pursuing
her doctoral studies from the University of Newcastle, Australia
in the "Effects of spacing the Lidcombe Program for early stuttering."
As part of her research, Sarita will collect clinical data at the
MFC by assessing and treating preschool children who stutter. Sarita's
doctoral thesis is being supervised by Dr. Sally Hewat, Dr. Rosalee
Shenker and Professor Mark Onslow. |

Kim graduated from McGill University in 1993. She transferred
to the MFC in June 2005 from St. John’s, Newfoundland, where
she worked in a variety of settings. From 2000 to 2005 she was
the director of LearnAbilities Language & Learning Centre,
her own multidisciplinary private practice. Kim specializes in
reading disorders and language-based learning disabilities, and
provides assessment and evidence-based therapy for school aged
children. She developed and instituted the MFC’s first Summer
Reading Camp in August 2006 and continues to be involved in development
of intensive and group programs in reading and writing. |

Catherine has worked at the MFC since graduating from the University
of British Columbia in 1997. She assesses and treats children
with a wide variety of speech and language disorders. Her practice
specializes in early intervention for children with emerging communication

Tammy graduated from the State University of New York in
2005. She then worked in a school setting in Boston, MA and joined
the MFC in September 2006. Tammy offers a wide range of general
practice including assessment and treatment of speech and language
impairments in preschool and school-age children. Tammy is also
responsible for implementing the MFC Oral Language Project in kindergarten
through grade 2 at a local elementary school. |

Yael has worked at the MFC since graduating from McGill in 2000.
She assesses and treats a wide range of speech and language impairments
in particular, school age children with language-based learning
and reading disabilities. Yael has been involved in the MFC’s
school based Oral Language Projects, and this year has helped
to develop and implement a new project involving the upper elementary
grades. Yael has also helped to develop and run the MFC’s
Social Language Group. |

Lorraine Balfour

Lorraine joined the Montreal Fluency Centre as a
volunteer and tutor in February of 2005. In August of that year,
she took on the role of Intake Coordinator, serving primarily as
the first contact for parents who phone the clinic looking for services
for their child. She also lends general administrative support to
the clinic and oversees the volunteer program. In summer 2007 she
is scheduled to begin the Master’s program in Speech-Language
Pathology at Nova Southeastern University.

Marlene Desjardins, Ph.D.

Marlene has been working at the MFC since September 2005, having
consulted to the centre for two years prior to that. At the MFC,
Marlene provides comprehensive psycho-educational assessments, one-on-one
remedial therapy, and consultations to parents, teachers, and tutors.
She co-directs the in-house service Integrated Resources for Independent
Learning (IRIL), and is planning to pursue clinical research in
the area of treatment efficacy. Marlene obtained a Bachelor of Arts
degree (Honours Psychology) from the University of Ottawa, a Master
of Arts degree (Educational Psychology) from McGill University,
and Ph.D. degree (School and Child-clinical Psychology) from the
Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of
Toronto. She has worked with children and adolescents who have learning
disabilities for the past 12 years. |

Lise-Marie Sauvé

Lisa-Marie joined the Centre in September 2007 after completing
her M.A. in School and Applied Child Psychology at McGill University.
She is a native speaker of French and performs psycho-educational
assessments in French as well as in English. She is also available
for one-on-one remedial therapy in both languages and consultations
with parents, teachers and tutors. Her previous work experiences
include two years as a research assistant with individuals with
High-Functioning Autism or Asperger’s disorder, doing research
on phonological awareness in young children as well as studying
the development of reading skills in second-language speakers
of French in Montreal. She also works part-time as a school psychology
consultant at the Commission Scolaire de Laval. |
