“Getting Ready for Grade 2″ English Reading Group
The summer between Grade 1 and 2 is a critical time for students struggling with language arts, and is a perfect opportunity to solidify basic reading and spelling skills. The Montreal Fluency Centre is once again offering an English Reading Group for students who have completed Grade 1 in an English or 50:50 program.
The group will focus on teaching English-speaking students the tools they need to be successful in an English language arts program: the underlying phonological awareness skills that help students be better readers and spellers, explicit teaching of the phonics rules, and word attack strategies to encourage accurate reading of longer words. Parents will also be able to observe and learn techniques to help their child at home.
The group will run twice a week for 3 weeks this summer. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10:00 to 12:00 hours. Dates: July 26 & 28, August 2, 4, 9 & 11.
If the student is not already a MFC therapy client, they are required to undergo a reading screening at the MFC. The cost is 162$, it takes 50 minutes and includes a checklist report.
* Fee dependent on number of children enrolled. Programme subject to cancellation if enrollment is too low.
