What is the Lidcombe Program?
The Lidcombe Programme is a direct treatment for early stuttering that children enjoy and which is extremely effective. The treatment is implemented by parents, during a period of close consultation with the clinician. Research and clinical trials have shown that the Lidcombe Program can eliminate stuttering within 2-6 months for the most part and fluency can be maintained through a criterion based maintenance program, when stuttering begins in the first few years of life.
Who can attend the workshops?
The Lidcombe Program Basic workshop is intended for Speech Language Pathologists only.
What is The Montreal Fluency Centre’s history with the Lidcombe Program?
The Montreal Fluency Centre has offered Lidcombe Program Clinician Training Workshops since 1999, in collaboration with the Australian Stuttering Research Centre. In 2002 the Lidcombe Program Training Consortium was formed in order to establish some quality control over the continuing professional education of the Lidcombe Program. Rosalee C. Shenker, Executive Director of The Montreal Fluency Centre, is a charter member of this consortium along with members from Australia, United States, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands and New Zealand. Since the initial workshop, over 2000 Clinicians have been trained in workshops in Canada and the United States. The program of professional education offered by the Montreal Fluency Centre in collaboration with the Lidcombe Programme Training Corsortium (LPTC) is conducted for Speech-Language Pathologists in English and French. At least one member of the LPTC is present at all Lidcombe Program Workshops in North America.

Who are the presenters?
Members of the LPTC:
Barry Guitar, Ph.D., Professor, University of Vermont, has been treating preschool children with the LP for 7 years and has given many clinical workshops and data-based presentations on the LP. He has also practiced ” Distance Lidcombe” for families in remote areas.
Melissa Bruce, M.S., Clinic Director, University of Houston, has developed training programs for graduate students based on the LP, and has implemented and supervised this program for 10 years.
Rosalee C. Shenker, Ph.D., Executive Director, Montreal Fluency Centre, has been treating children with the LP for over 10 years. She has collaborated on several publications on the LP.
Christina Lattermann, Ph.D. has implemented the Lidcombe Program in Germany, provided many clinical workshops and is supervising colleagues who are working with the LP. She is currently writing book on the LP in German.

A frequent contributer to seminars on stuttering He is coordinating the research collaboration between the UW Speech and Hearing Sciences Department and the Australian Stuttering Research Centre in Sydney, Australia.

We maintain an up to date list for Speech-Language Pathologists who have taken our training course. However, neither the Montreal Fluency Centre, nor the Lidcombe Program Training Consortium warrant the competency of the clinicians or guarantee their treatment.
